Aaron Rodgers reportedly set for Steelers return on one-year deal worth up to $25m

Aaron Rodgers is reportedly reuniting with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2026 NFL season, according to multiple reports.

The one-year deal is said to include $22 million guaranteed and up to $25 million in incentives. He is also set to reunite with Mike McCarthy, his head coach for 13 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers is expected to report to Steelers OTAs, which begin Monday.

His return to the NFL, the Steelers, and McCarthy was not a sure thing. The veteran has considered retirement in recent offseasons, and there was no guarantee he would play a 22nd season.

After former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stepped down, it appeared even more likely Rodgers might retire or sign elsewhere if he kept playing. Tomlin was reportedly a key reason Rodgers joined Pittsburgh ahead of the 2025 season, and his departure seemed to signal Rodgers’ exit as well.

For a second straight year, Rodgers gives Pittsburgh an immediate chance to win. If age catches up with him, the Steelers could land a high draft pick and target a quarterback in 2027. If he performs well, it buys McCarthy and the team more time to develop a potential long-term starter.
