Amazon adding 3.5% surcharge for items sold by third-party sellers as fuel prices rise
Amazon will impose a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on third party sellers later this month as fuel prices rise during the war in Iran.
The temporary fee takes effect April 17 for many sellers using its fulfillment services, the company confirmed to The Associated Press, citing higher fuel and logistics costs across the industry.
The Seattle based company said it has absorbed these increases so far but, like other major carriers, will add temporary surcharges when costs stay high, noting its fee is meaningfully lower than others.
The surcharge applies to U.S. and Canadian sellers using Fulfillment by Amazon and will extend to Buy with Prime and Multi Channel Fulfillment starting May 2.
Amazon joins other carriers responding to rising energy costs. United Parcel Service and FedEx have raised fuel surcharges, and the United States Postal Service will impose an 8% surcharge on packages shipped starting April 26 through Jan. 17, 2027.
