The M6 chip marks Apple’s first silicon built on a two nanometer process. It includes a twelve core central processing unit, a twelve core graphics unit with neural accelerators in every core, and a dual sixteen core Neural Engine.

These enhancements deliver substantially faster AI performance compared with the previous M4 generation, including improved handling of large language models and other local compute intensive applications.

A higher end configuration pairs the Mac mini with the M5 Pro chip, offering greater memory capacity and bandwidth for more demanding workloads.

Preorders for both versions began immediately, with customer shipments scheduled to start on September twenty two. The refreshed models address recent shortages of earlier Mac mini units that had become popular for always on AI agent and local model processing.
