Attorney General Cancels Hundreds of Millions in Budget Approved Through Coalition Maneuver
Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara announced the cancellation of hundreds of millions of shekels from the budget that had been approved through a coalition maneuver in the Knesset plenum.
The Knesset yesterday gave final approval to the 2026 state budget. The key moment came when the coalition submitted amendments to the budget (amendments that are usually only proposed by the opposition), proposing to allocate 790 million shekels to the Haredi education budget. The opposition did not understand the coalition’s maneuver and voted in favor, allowing the budget to pass with 109 votes in favor and no votes against.
