Canada Announces Additional $100 Million in Aid for Gaza
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced Friday an additional $100 million USD in funding for the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Red Crescent, and non-governmental organizations providing aid to Palestinians in Judea, Samaria, and the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, Anand said the increase was prompted by the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, deteriorating conditions in Judea and Samaria, and what she described as expanding Israeli settlement activity and increasing violence by extremist settlers.
The new funding brings Canada’s total assistance to Palestinians to more than $500 million and is intended to support emergency medical care, food, water, sanitation, shelter, and other services.
Anand called on Israel to allow aid to enter without restrictions and to fully comply with international humanitarian law in Judea, Samaria, and the Gaza Strip.
She also reaffirmed Canada’s support for a two-state solution, noted that Canada recently imposed sanctions on activists and organizations linked to violence by extremist settlers, and called for Hamas to be disarmed and for all parties to respect international law.
