Demonstrators from the Charedi Peleg Hayerushalmi are blocking major highways in central Israel, threatening severe traffic congestion throughout the Tel Aviv metropolitan area.
The disruptions coincide with three large-scale concerts scheduled in the city, prompting concerns of widespread gridlock for thousands of commuters and event attendees.
The Peleg organized the demonstration to protest the recent transfer of 17 bochurim into IDF custody.
The Bochurim have been arrested during a confrontation outside the residence of Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg.
The Peleg leadership condemned the military’s involvement, calling the transfer a major escalation and a breach of a red line regarding the conscription of yeshiva Bochurim.
The Israeli Police Traffic Division has deployed increased forces and set up a wide network of personnel across the central region to manage the anticipated disruptions.
Authorities stated that while the right to protest will be respected, law enforcement will not tolerate violations of public order, attacks on officers, or actions that compromise motorist safety.
