Chaveirim of Rockland Join Search for Missing Jewish Woman in California

The search for a missing Jewish woman in Los Angeles has expanded significantly, with more than twenty members of Chaverim of Rockland traveling from New York to assist in locating 78-year-old Jeanne Litvin, who has been missing for almost a week.

Litvin was last seen on April 15 at around 7:25 a.m. when she left her home in Hancock Park. Since her disappearance, the search has been coordinated by Hatzolah of Los Angeles alongside the California Highway Patrol, the Los Angeles Police Department, and volunteers from the local Jewish community. On April 19, Chaverim of Rockland joined the operation after coordinator Yossi Margaretten assembled a group of roughly 30 volunteers who flew out of Newark on an early morning flight.

There have been no confirmed sightings of Litvin since she went missing. Chaverim teams are now working together with Hatzolah, using specialized equipment to help piece together her possible movements after she disappeared.

When she was last seen, Litvin was wearing a red and black sweater over a black dress. She has aphasia, a neurological condition that affects communication, and her family believes she may not be able to provide her name or address if found, which has complicated the search effort.

Search crews are utilizing a range of tools, including reviewing surveillance footage, canvassing for additional cameras, and deploying drones in an effort to trace her path.

“This is a very challenging operation,” Margaretten said, noting that some teams are focused on ground search grids while others are analyzing video footage and operating drones.

In addition to coordinated search efforts, volunteers continue to distribute flyers and expand searches across Los Angeles and nearby areas, including transit corridors and surrounding neighborhoods. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the LAPD’s Wilshire Division. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to her safe return.
