Child Seriously Injured in Lakewood Hit-and-Run; Suspect Arrested
A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured in a hit-and-run Friday night, and the suspected driver has since been arrested.
Police said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. near Hope Chapel Road and Clearstream area. Officers from the Lakewood Police Department responded to reports of a minor struck by a vehicle and found the victim with significant injuries.
Investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit Vehicular Homicide Squad, working with Lakewood police and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, determined that a northbound Hyundai Elantra hit the child and then left the scene.
The victim was taken by Hatzolah to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and is listed in critical but stable condition. He has been communicative over shabbos, B”H.
After pulling security camera footage from the home of a yid nearby, authorities identified the driver as 35-year-old Jose Perez-Parada of Jackson. He was arrested at Lakewood Township Police Headquarters and taken to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains pending a detention hearing.
