Just In – Darline Graham wins Republican primary to fill her brother’s U.S. Senate seat
Darline Graham has been projected the winner of the South Carolina Republican primary runoff for the United States Senate. The result came shortly after polls closed on Tuesday evening.
Graham is the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham who died unexpectedly in July. Governor Henry McMaster appointed her to fill the vacancy on an interim basis making her the first woman to serve South Carolina in the Senate. She entered the special election with strong backing from President Trump.
In the initial special primary held earlier in August no candidate reached a majority. Graham finished first and advanced to the runoff against Representative Ralph Norman. Voters selected Graham as the Republican nominee.
She will now face Democratic nominee Annie Andrews in the November general election. The seat remains strongly Republican according to analysts.
