Guillotine in pickup truck parked near US Capitol building prompts driver’s arrest

A guillotine spotted in the bed of a pickup truck parked near the US Capitol and Supreme Court buildings in Washington, D.C. prompted the arrest of its driver Tuesday, officials said.

US Capitol Police said officers spotted the guillotine in the black pickup, which had been driven from California and was illegally parked in the 100 block of East Capitol Street. Officers noticed the truck around 3 p.m.

The driver, 35-year-old Philan-Tam-Duy Le of Julian, CA, was arrested for carrying a dangerous weapon for possessing the guillotine, USCP said.

Investigators are reviewing Le’s background to determine why he traveled to the District.
