European Leaders Condemn Russian Hypersonic Missile Strike on Kyiv
European leaders are condemning Russia after an intense overnight assault on Kyiv using hypersonic ballistic missiles. Germany’s Chancellor called the attack a “reckless escalation.” The strike resulted in multiple casualties and extensive damage to residential and government buildings, including a mall and a water supply facility.
The Russian government claims the attack, which included Russia’s Oreshnik ballistic missile, was retaliation for a Ukrainian strike on a student dormitory last week, which Ukraine denies. Ukrainian President Zelensky has called on the United States and Europe for increased air defense systems, including Patriot missiles, as stockpiles are under increasing strain.
