FBI Report: Violent Crime and Murder Rates Drop Significantly in 2025
According to the FBI’s annual crime report, violent crime across the United States saw a substantial overall decline in 2025. Most notably, the national murder rate dropped by 18.1% compared to 2024, reaching a 20-year low.
Other major violent crime categories experienced double- or single-digit drops across the board, with robberies decreasing by 18.5%, aggravated assaults falling by 7.2%, violent crime dropping by 9.3%, and motor vehicle theft going down by 22.7%.
Speaking on Friday to a crowd on Long Island, President Trump highlighted the new statistics, attributing the lower crime numbers directly to his administration’s strict approach to public safety and border security.
