Frum Traveler Released Following Detention at Taba Airport for Putting on Tefillin

An Israeli traveler was detained at Taba International Airport in Egypt after being spotted putting on tefillin, while another Charedi passenger was reportedly reprimanded by local staff for learning Gemara while waiting for a flight.

The incident caused a stir at the terminal, which has recently become a major transit hub for Israelis following the airspace restrictions linked to Operation Roaring Lion.

The young man was eventually released and allowed to board a different flight following the intervention of Israeli officials.

The Israeli National Security Council has previously advised Israelis transiting through Sinai to avoid displaying religious items or identifiers, as the area remains under a high travel warning despite its role in the “Lion’s Wings” repatriation effort.
