Baruch Dayan Ha’emes 💔
The CBN team is saddened to report the petirah of HaGaon Rav Shabtai Beinish Herman zt”l, one of the esteemed Rabbanim of Yeshivas Hatefutzos on Har Tzion, a founding member of the community of Mitzad in the Judean Hills, and the founder and Nasi of Kollel Schottenstein in Shaarei Chesed, Yerushalayim, was niftar at the age of 82.
The levayah will take place today (Tuesday) at 4:00 PM, from the Sanhedria Funeral Home in Yerushalayim to Har HaZeisim.
The niftar zt”l was born on the 5th of Kislev 5704 in South America to his father, Rav Moshe Herman zt”l. From his youth, he was immersed in Torah and avodah.
Upon arriving in Eretz Yisroel, he entered Yeshivas Hatefutzos, where he flourished and became close to the Rosh Yeshiva and founder, HaGaon Rav Mordechai Goldstein zt”l, eventually becoming his mechutan.
His entire life was a journey of aliyah in avodas Hashem, with unwavering emunah in the Ribbono Shel Olam, His Torah, and His mitzvos. He fulfilled mitzvos with precision and simcha, distanced himself from worldly vanities, and toiled in Torah throughout his life—it was his greatest joy. He cleaved to the pshat of Rashi and the teachings of the Vilna Gaon.
He was mashkim and ma’ariv to batei knessios, carried every individual on his heart as a yachid, and devoted himself to establishing future generations on the foundations of Torah and yiras Shamayim. The anticipation and emunah in the geulah of Tzion were constantly on his lips. Despite all his accomplishments, he remained humble and never held credit for himself.
He leaves behind 12 children following in his ways—including his son, the Rosh Kollel, HaRav Shmuel Herman, and his son-in-law, HaGaon Rav Yitzchak Goldstein, Rosh Yeshivas Hatefutzos.
The family will be sitting shivah at 24 Yeshayahu Street, Yerushalayim.
