Harry and Meghan Will Move Back to Britain After 6 Years in U.S.
Prince Harry, Meghan and their children are moving back to Britain in the coming weeks, six years after leaving for the United States amid a clash with the royal family, according to two people familiar with the decision.
The surprise move ends the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s self-imposed exile, which began amid anger and recriminations that drew international attention to divisions within Buckingham Palace.
Harry lost his honorary military titles and royal patronages in 2021, a year after he and Meghan announced they would “step back” from official duties. Some tabloids dubbed their departure “Megxile.”
The feud continued in the U.S. as Harry published his tell-all book, “Spare,” the couple interviewed Oprah Winfrey, and several reconciliation efforts failed. Harry repeatedly accused Buckingham Palace of blocking his family’s return by refusing to provide armed protection.
King Charles III was informed of the decision Sunday, one person said. The move was not discussed when Harry and Meghan visited Britain and met with the king this summer.
Harry and Meghan will remain non-working royals and private individuals while living in Britain, both people said.
