Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem Rejects Ceasefire Terms, Says Fighting Will Continue
Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem issued a written statement for the first time today (Thursday) regarding the ceasefire announced overnight, sharply criticizing the terms of the agreement.
He said the organization rejects the core principles of the deal and warned that fighting and responses to Israeli actions will continue as long as what he called “aggression” does not stop.
In his statement, Qassem claimed that the outcome of the diplomatic negotiations is not acceptable to broad segments of Lebanese society.
“The result of the direct, absurd, humiliating, and disgraceful negotiations toward Lebanon is completely rejected by large parts of the Lebanese people,” he wrote.
He also argued that the U.S.-brokered process serves Israeli interests, saying: “Washington’s announcement outlines the basic principles that the United States and Israel see as necessary to subjugate Lebanon to the project of Greater Israel.”
