Honda Recalls Nearly 100,000 Vehicles Over Airbag Sensor Defect
Honda is recalling nearly 100,000 vehicles due to an airbag-related defect, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The issue involves the front passenger seat weight sensor. Honda said a capacitor inside the sensor’s printed circuit board can crack after exposure to humidity, which may cause a short circuit.
In certain crashes, this could cause the front passenger frontal and knee airbags to deploy even when the seat is occupied by an infant in a child seat, a child, or another occupant below the size threshold for deployment. Honda said this could increase the risk of injury.
The affected models include:
* 2016–2022 Honda Civic
* 2016–2022 Honda Accord
* 2017–2022 Honda Accord Hybrid
* 2017–2021 Honda Civic Hatchback
* 2017–2018 and 2021 Honda Civic Type R
* 2017–2022 Honda CR-V
* 2017–2022 Honda Pilot
* 2017–2021, 2023, 2025 Honda Ridgeline
* 2017–2020, 2022–2026 Acura MDX
* 2018–2026 Honda Odyssey
* 2018–2020 Honda Fit
* 2018–2021, 2023 Acura TLX
* 2019–2021 Honda HR-V
* 2019–2021 Honda Passport
* 2019–2022 Honda Insight
* 2019–2024 Acura RDX
* 2020–2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid
Honda has received 228 warranty claims as of May 14. The company reports no injuries or deaths in the U.S. linked to the issue between Feb. 4, 2021, and Oct. 30, 2025.
Owners will be notified by mail and told to visit an authorized Honda or Acura dealer for replacement of the faulty seat weight sensor. Notification letters are expected to begin July 6. Customer service can be reached at 1-888-234-2138 for Honda and 1-800-382-2238 for Acura.
