IDF: Civilian Killed by Friendly Fire Near Misgav Am Following Operational Errors
The Israel Defense Forces announced that Ofer Moskovitz was killed by IDF fire during operations near Misgav Am, in what has been described as a grave and tragic incident.
According to the IDF Spokesperson, an initial investigation led by Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo found that Moskovitz was struck by artillery fire intended to assist Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon. His family has been notified of the findings.
The probe revealed significant operational failures in both the planning and execution of the strike. Artillery shells were fired at an incorrect angle and did not follow required procedures, resulting in five shells hitting the Misgav Am ridge instead of designated enemy targets.
Maj. Gen. Milo stated that the incident reflects serious errors during a mission aimed solely at protecting civilians.
The IDF expressed deep regret over the incident and extended condolences to the Moskovitz family and the Misgav Am community. A more comprehensive and transparent investigation will be conducted, with its findings to be presented first to the family and later to the public.
