Military Probe of Fatal Shooting of Palestinian Infant in Hebron Looking Into Allegations Soldiers Left Scene Without Providing Aid
The Military Police investigation into the fatal shooting of a seven-month-old Palestinian baby by an IDF soldier in Hebron is reportedly examining allegations that the troops departed the area immediately after the gunfire without rendering medical attention to the casualties.
The incident occurred when an Israeli soldier fired at a vehicle carrying a family in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood.
The IDF initially stated that the soldier opened fire after perceiving that the vehicle was accelerating toward the force, later expressing “deep sorrow” after a preliminary inquiry confirmed that the family members were uninvolved civilians.
The infant, Sam Fahd Abou Haikal, was killed in the shooting, while his parents sustained injuries.
While the military probe is still reviewing the operational circumstances that led to the execution of the shot, investigators are now also focusing on the conduct of the soldiers in the immediate aftermath, specifically whether they failed to comply with protocols requiring troops to provide first aid to wounded individuals at the scene.
