Israel Fire and Rescue Authority recovered the body of a 48-year-old man from the Jordan River in northern Israel on Tuesday after it was seen adrift in the water.

According to KAN News, Uri Sarousi from Har Bracha was an active-duty IDF reservist who dove into the water to save his 9-year-old son. He was given a short leave period from his military service in northern Israel, and was spending time with his family by the river.

It took four local rescue teams from the Galilee-Golan Fire and Rescue unit to retrieve the body due to the speed of the river current.

MDA reported receiving a call about a man who was pulled into the river current while trying to rescue a child who had fallen into the water.

Once the Fire and Rescue team completed their mission, MDA medics attempted to resuscitate the man, but eventually pronounced him dead.

The child, who was ultimately rescued by another person at the scene, was also given medical treatment by MDA responders and taken to the hospital in mild condition.
