IDF Admits in Classified Knesset Hearing: UNIFIL Gathers Intelligence on Israeli Troops That Leaks to Hezbollah

During a classified briefing before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, IDF representatives revealed that personnel from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been gathering intelligence on Israeli soldiers operating in southern Lebanon.

According to military officials at the hearing, this collected data is systematically leaking directly to Hezbollah, creating an immediate and substantial threat to the lives of IDF troops on the ground.

The revelation underscores long-standing friction between Israel and the UN peacekeeping mission, which is already scheduled to conclude its mandate at the end of December following a unanimous UN Security Council vote last summer.

Israeli security officials have frequently warned that UNIFIL’s presence complicates operational freedom and fails to prevent militant entrenchment.

At the time of reporting, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit has not issued an official public response regarding the leaked details of the closed-door testimony.
