State Prosecution: Indictment Filed Against Four Residents of Beit Shemesh Over Violent Riot Near Justice Solberg’s Home
The State Attorney’s Office has filed an indictment with the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court against Nachman Platnik (20), Avraham Fried (20), Gershon Hanon (21), and Shimon Atfah (41), residents of Beit Shemesh,
For their alleged involvement in a violent riot that took place near the home of Deputy President of the Supreme Court, Justice Noam Solberg, in Alon Shvut.
According to the indictment, submitted through Attorney Ariel Illouz of the Jerusalem District Prosecution, a call was published in the wake of court rulings dealing with enforcement of military conscription for yeshiva Bochurim, urging a protest near Justice Solberg’s residence.
As a result, more than one hundred people arrived at the scene, including the defendants.
The indictment states that upon arrival, a violent disturbance broke out around the judge’s home. During the incident, windows of the house were smashed, damage was caused to a vehicle and additional property, stones were thrown at the residence, and the access road was blocked at various times. Some participants entered the yard and adjoining parking area.
Flyers and flags were thrown during the unrest, a neighbor of the judge was assaulted, and a police vehicle that arrived at the scene was forced to retreat after participants ran toward it while shouting.
According to the indictment, the defendants took part in the riot, and two of them also entered the home’s parking area during the incident.
All defendants are charged with participating in a riot, and two are additionally charged with trespassing.
In the prosecution’s request for detention, Attorney Illouz stated that this was “a severe, extraordinary, and unprecedented incident in which a violent riot took place outside the home of a Supreme Court justice, including damage to property, all against the backdrop of his judicial role.”
The investigation into additional suspects is ongoing by the Judea and Samaria District Police.
