Iran called off a planned attack on Israel – NYT
Iran called off a planned attack on Israel in retaliation for strikes on Beirut following intervention by President Trump urging restraint on Iran through intermediaries, according to three Iranian officials, who spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
There were deliberations within Tehran’s power circles on whether or not Iran should respond to create deterrence or hold back, with some arguing that retaliating would be playing into Israel’s hands to derail a peace deal between Tehran and Washington.
President Trump has offered a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon and the immediate lifting of the blockade, leading Iran to halt its planned strike, according to Fars News Agency.
Note: President Trump has already completed one of the alleged concessions, completely lifting the blockade.
