Iran Executes Second Operative Within Days Over Alleged Mossad Assassination Plot
The Iranian judiciary announced the execution of an Iranian national convicted of collaborating with Israel’s Mossad spy agency, marking the second high-profile hanging linked to espionage within 48 hours.
The executed individual, identified as Gholamreza Khani Shakarab, was hanged following a conviction for orchestrating a series of sensitive intelligence operations inside Iran under direct Israeli command. According to state judicial channels, Shakarab was primarily tasked with recruiting local operatives within the country to expand an active espionage ring targeting Iranian security infrastructure.
Judicial prosecutors further alleged that Shakarab was a key player in an aborted Israeli intelligence plot to assassinate a prominent rabbi. Iranian authorities claimed the conspiracy was designed to eliminate the religious figure and subsequently frame the Iranian government for the killing to fuel international condemnation.
The execution closely follows the hanging of another Iranian citizen, Mojtaba Kian, who was executed for transmitting sensitive coordinates and defensive capability metrics regarding Iran’s defense industry units to foreign intelligence.
