Iran offering $30,000 bounty for the slaughter and capture of US soldiers, army chief says
Tehran’s military chief has offered a $30,000 reward for anyone who kills or captures a US soldier, doubled for Iranian women, though it remains unclear how they could carry out such attacks.
Iranian Army chief Amir Hatami said there were a “large number of requests” for bounties despite there being no US ground forces in Iran.
“Anyone who kills or captures and hands over an invading American military personnel will receive a reward equivalent to $30,000 or 5 billion tomans from the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army,” Hatami told IRNA. He added that “courageous Iranian women” who do so will receive double the reward.
Hatami also said the weapon used to kill an American would be preserved in a planned museum.
He did not say when or where attacks could occur. The 18 US troops killed since the war began Feb. 28 have all died outside Iran in airstrikes and munition incidents.
The last US soldier on Iranian soil was in April, when an F-15E fighter jet went down, prompting a quick rescue of its pilot and weapons specialist.
The bounty comes after President Trump repeatedly accused Iran of struggling to pay its troops as the renewed US naval blockade continues to hurt its finances. Iran’s rial has fallen to record lows during the war, while inflation has reached historic levels.
