Iranian Drones Target Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister’s Office in Erbil
Two explosive-laden drones launched from Iranian territory targeted the office of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of the region’s security and intelligence chief in Erbil.
Local security agencies reported no casualties from the strikes.
KRG security officials identified the aircraft used in the strike as Iranian-made Hadid-110 drones.
Prime Minister Barzani publicly condemned the assault on X, describing it as a “dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region,” while emphasizing that the attack would not deter the government from fulfilling its duties.
The strikes follow reports from Axios that the Trump administration previously utilized Barzani as a secret backchannel to communicate directly with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region, headquartered in Erbil, has faced heightened cross-border security pressures and frequent drone strikes amid broader regional military tensions involving Tehran and its proxy networks.
