Iranian FM Araghchi Recounts Supreme Leader Khamenei’s Final Moments
In an exclusive interview with Al-Mayadeen, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described being in Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s office on February 28, 2026, briefing him right after returning from nuclear talks in Geneva.
Araghchi to Al-Mayadeen: At the moment of Iran’s leader’s death, I was in his office that was attacked
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said to Al-Mayadeen:
“After I returned from the talks in Geneva on Friday, I arrived on Saturday at 9 a.m. (Iran time) at the leader’s office to deliver my report to him.
My report dealt with the negotiations and the atmosphere that developed on Friday, which greatly increased the possibility of war.
The building we were in was attacked, but the wing we were in remained intact.
The first question that came to my mind, and the first concern that gripped me, was: What is the leader’s condition?
I felt that according to the regular work routine, the leader must certainly be in his office.
Even though the possibility of war was high, the spirit and character of the ‘martyr leader’ prevented him from going down to the shelters.”
