Israel Approves Land for Permanent US Embassy in Jerusalem
Israel’s cabinet approved the allocation of land in the Allenby Complex in southern Jerusalem for a permanent United States embassy on Tuesday evening.
The decision followed a proposal by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, and Construction and Housing Minister Haim Katz.
Officials described it as completing the process started under then President Donald Trump, who recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moved the embassy there in 2018.
The temporary facility has operated in Jerusalem since then. The new site will allow for a dedicated complex, reinforcing the strong alliance between the two countries amid regional challenges.
The Allenby Complex, near Hebron Road, has been under consideration for years. Construction details and timelines will now be coordinated between Israeli and American authorities.
