Just In – Israeli Airstrike Reportedly Kills Palestinian Islamic Jihad Commander in Gaza
Gaza appears to have seen a fresh targeted strike as reports emerge that Muhammad al-Ata a commander in Palestinian Islamic Jihad was killed in an Israeli airstrike.
al-Ata is the brother of Baha Abu al-Ata the senior Islamic Jihad leader assassinated by Israel in 2019.
That earlier killing triggered days of rocket fire from Gaza into Israel and heightened tensions along the border. Muhammad al-Ata himself had long been involved in the groups rocket operations and survived a previous Israeli strike in May 2023 that targeted a command center linked to him.
As of Sunday evening the report remains unconfirmed by major outlets or official statements from either side. Palestinian Islamic Jihad has not yet issued a response and Israeli authorities have offered no immediate comment. The incident comes amid a fragile period in Gaza where sporadic violence and precision operations against militant figures have continued despite periodic ceasefires.
