Police Commissioner Orders Immediate Detention of Military Deserters
In a dramatic policy shift, Israeli Police Commissioner Danny Levy has instructed officers to immediately detain any military deserter encountered during routine activity.
The directive comes after months in which police largely refrained from delaying or detaining deserters. Under the new orders, officers will report every case directly to the Military Police, after which the individual will be transferred to the IDF’s handling authorities.
