Israeli Security Forces Secretly Aided Smuggling into Gaza, Indictment Reveals🤬
Israeli security forces provided covert assistance in smuggling large quantities of unregulated and prohibited goods into Gaza over the past two years, according to an indictment filed last month against a Gaza resident reported by Haaretz.
The case involves a smuggler known as “Abu Basel,” who allegedly ran a parallel operation through the Kerem Shalom crossing. Goods entered under the cover of a nonprofit called “The Palestinian Immigrant,” bypassing inspections and generating millions in profits by leveraging ties to Israeli defense personnel.
Large quantities of unregulated/prohibited items included cellphones, computers, cigarettes, tobacco, solar panels, batteries, generators, electric bicycles, washing machines, and similar consumer/dual-use products. Profits reached millions.
The revelations come amid heightened scrutiny of Gaza border management during the Israel-Hamas war. Israeli authorities have previously charged soldiers and civilians in similar smuggling cases. Israel maintains strict controls to block weapons and dual-use materials, but the war has exposed vulnerabilities in coordination and enforcement.
