Israir receives FAA operational approval, expects to start selling tickets to US ‘soon’
Israir announced Monday that it received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate flights to and from the United States.
“Receiving the FAA approval is the final and decisive step in the regulatory process,” the company said, adding that it follows previous approvals from aviation authorities in Israel and the U.S.
The airline said it has completed all requirements and obtained the permits needed to operate flights to North America and expects to begin selling tickets soon.
“This is an international expression of trust from the American aviation authority in the quality, safety and operational reliability of the company,” Israir said. “We are excited to expand our map of destinations to North America, increase competition in the market, and provide our customers with quality service at competitive prices.”
Last week, Israir announced that it received approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation to sell tickets, with the first flights targeted for October 19. The airline said it remains in contact with the FAA and is cooperating fully with relevant authorities.
The main route is expected to be Tel Aviv to New York, with no other U.S. routes announced.
Outside Europe and the Caucasus, Israir currently serves only Zanzibar, Tanzania, and Marrakesh, Morocco.
