U.S. Olympic hockey hero Jack Hughes finally fixes teeth broken in gold medal game🙈
Jack Hughes is back on the ice with a new smile about a month after breaking his teeth leading Team USA men’s hockey to gold at the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics.
After the Feb. 22 win over Canada, Hughes, who is Jewish, returned to the New Jersey Devils in March. The team confirmed he repaired his top teeth on March 17. Auerbach, who was not Hughes’ dentist, said most of his injuries were dental and did not need surgery.
Hughes’ broken smile became the defining image of Team USA’s victory. In the third period of the gold medal game, Canada’s Sam Bennett’s high stick chipped a few of his teeth. With the score tied 1-1, the game went into sudden-death overtime. Early in extra time, Zach Werenski passed to Hughes, who took a second before firing a slap shot past Jordan Binnington for the golden goal, giving the U.S. its first hockey title since 1980.
Hughes is finishing the season with the Devils, scoring 21 points since the Olympics. He joined New Jersey as the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NHL draft and is in year four of an eight-year, $64 million contract.
