Jerusalem Court Extends Detention of 52 Suspects in Violent Incident at Justice Solberg’s Home; Additional Arrest Sparks Protests
The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Sunday extended the detention of 52 suspects by an additional four days, until June 10, 2026, in connection with an alleged violent disturbance and property damage at the home of Deputy President of the Supreme Court, Justice Noam Sohlberg.
Two additional suspects were released to full house arrest until June 11 under restrictive conditions, including a ban on contact with others involved in the case and financial guarantees.
Police representatives told the court that there were two attempted escapes by detainees while being transported by bus in the Hebron area en route to a police station.
They also said that most suspects initially refused to identify themselves during questioning, and only began cooperating later. Police further argued that the scale of the case requires “multiplying investigative actions by the number of suspects,” and that the detention period so far has been insufficient to complete necessary investigative steps and collect additional evidence.
Defense attorney Roy Politi requested house arrest for his clients, arguing that the bus used for detainee transport effectively functioned as a “mobile detention facility.”
He also claimed that only a minority of suspects had actually entered the property, and that further investigative steps could be carried out without continued detention.
In its ruling, the court stated that the suspects acted as “a large group that gathered together to arrive at the Deputy President’s home,” and noted attempted escapes as well as the scale of coordination.
The judge added that little investigative progress had been made so far due to consecutive hearings and the suspects’ observance of Shabbat, and emphasized the alleged “seriousness and dangerousness” reflected in the pre-planned nature of the incident.
Meanwhile, tensions continued on the ground following a new arrest. Police detained an additional suspect, a man in his 20s from Beit Shemesh, after he allegedly refused to comply with instructions from detectives in the Judea and Samaria District while driving near Beitar Illit and barricaded himself in his vehicle.
Police said officers eventually broke into the car and arrested him for questioning.
The arrest triggered protests in which Route 60 near the Jerusalem–Gush Etzion corridor was blocked for over an hour.
Police reported wider disturbances, including road blockages, obstruction of buses, moving rocks onto roads, setting up barriers, and burning tires. Security forces dispersed the demonstrators and restored traffic flow.
