JetBlue Doubles Down on Fort Lauderdale in Push for Profitability
JetBlue Airways, already the largest carrier at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), is accelerating its expansion there, positioning the South Florida gateway as a cornerstone of its turnaround strategy.
President Marty St. George has described FLL as a “star” for the airline. The carrier plans to grow to roughly 150 daily flights by early 2027, surpassing its operations in Boston and New York and effectively creating its first true hub with stronger connecting options.
Central to JetBlue’s strategy is shifting toward higher-yield premium products. The carrier is expanding its Mint lie-flat business class on more FLL routes and preparing to introduce domestic first-class cabins as part of broader network changes. It is also exploring a dedicated lounge at the airport, which St. George said would align with commercial goals.
Additional moves include establishing and expanding a pilot base at FLL to support Airbus A320 and A220 operations, along with infrastructure investments such as ticket lobby renovations.
The expansion positions JetBlue as the clear leader at one of its most important airports while it works to stabilize finances. Success at FLL could serve as a blueprint for similar targeted growth elsewhere.
