Man Arrested at Trump Golf Club Had Melania’s Schedule, Secret Service Details and Course Sketches
A man arrested with a gun at President Trump’s golf club allegedly amassed a dossier detailing First Lady Melania Trump’s daily schedule, Secret Service agents’ schedules and security details, and 208 pages of golf course sketches.
Jeanine John Taele, 38, a decorated Marine veteran from Downey, California, appeared before Judge John Lonergan in Los Angeles Wednesday wearing a suicide smock, which is a special piece of thick clothing given to people in jail or mental hospitals to stop them from hurting themselves or trying to die by suicide.
Prosecutors revealed new details about his arrest and said he had researched “going off the grid.” Taele is currently mentally unfit to stand trial.
Federal agents first spotted Taele at Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles on July 31 while assessing security for Trump’s Aug. 4 visit. He allegedly wore an earpiece while photographing and filming security-planning activities. He returned Aug. 2, approached agents and falsely claimed he worked for the State Department on a security detail. He allegedly admitted having a loaded firearm in his pickup.
Sheriff’s deputies detained him after learning he was wanted in an unrelated robbery case. A pat-down allegedly found a 16-round magazine with hollow-point ammunition. His truck contained a loaded 9mm pistol, ammunition, binoculars and a “security protection agent” badge.
A search of his home found an illegally modified AR-style rifle, additional firearms, body armor, high-capacity magazines, communications equipment and seven notebooks with surveillance logs.
Judge Lonergan called the allegations “alarming,” citing rising violence and political partisanship. Taele’s bail was revoked, keeping him jailed until Sept. 9.
Taele faces a separate federal charge for possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle allegedly cut from 14 to 10 inches, carrying up to 10 years in prison. He has not entered a federal plea.
Taele served in the Marine Corps from 2008 to 2016, reaching corporal and deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan. His decorations included two Good Conduct Medals, Iraq and Afghanistan Campaign Medals and a NATO ISAF Medal.
Trump visited the Rancho Palos Verdes club two days after Taele’s arrest for an RNC fundraiser and told Fox News he took “solace” in being a “consequential” president.
Taele pleaded not guilty Aug. 4 to four state charges: felony possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, felony large-capacity-magazine offense, felony second-degree robbery and misdemeanor carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle. The robbery stems from an unrelated November 2025 incident in El Segundo.
