Strategic Air Bases in Southern and Eastern Türkiye Receive Advanced Missile Defense Reinforcements
NATO has officially reinforced its ballistic missile defense in Türkiye by deploying Patriot PAC-3 air defense systems to the air base in Adana.
This deployment bolsters the existing Spanish-operated PAC-2 units, which have been stationed at the base since 2015.
While the PAC-2 is primarily designed to counter aircraft and cruise missiles, the PAC-3 variant provides a specialized layer of protection specifically against tactical ballistic missiles.
This move follows the recent deployment of a separate Patriot battery to the Malatya province to protect a strategic NATO radar station.
These reinforcements come in response to an increase in regional missile activity, including three reported interceptions of ballistic missiles over Turkish airspace since March 4.
One of these interceptions reportedly occurred directly over the Adana area on March 13, highlighting the immediate need for advanced interceptors at the site.
