NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: “22 Countries Answering the President’s Call”
In an interview on Face the Nation, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte addressed the ongoing tension regarding the Strait of Hormuz and President Trump’s recent critiques of the alliance.
Rather than responding to the President’s “NATO is nothing without the USA” comments with friction, Rutte praised the growing international coalition forming to secure the strategic waterway.
“The good news is 22 countries, most NATO, are coming to answer the president’s call in the Strait of Hormuz,” Rutte stated.
He confirmed that he has been in close contact with leaders like UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron to coordinate this effort.
Rutte emphasized that while there have been private discussions regarding the “when and how” of the mission, the commitment of these 22 nations to implement the vision of securing free navigation is a clear sign of the alliance’s unity and its responsiveness to American leadership.
