New Jersey Man Indicted for Threatening Jewish Organization
The Department of Justice has indicted Cameron Patterson, a 34-year-old resident of Newark, New Jersey, for allegedly making interstate threats. The charges stem from three emails sent on October 6, 2024, to a Jewish non-profit organization based in New York City, in which Patterson reportedly threatened physical harm against individuals at the organization.
According to court documents, a subsequent search of Patterson’s iCloud account uncovered multiple images that referenced mass shootings and depicted acts of violence. These findings, combined with the nature of the emails, led federal authorities to pursue charges under statutes governing threats transmitted through interstate commerce.
Patterson faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted. The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the FBI’s Newark Field Office and the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. As with all indictments, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
