More Speeding Cameras Added to New York State Roads This Spring
New York State is adding more automated speeding cameras this Spring in 2026. The cameras will issue tickets to drivers who go 10 miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit. Tickets will be mailed to the vehicle owner’s home, and the cameras currently being installed will remain active until 2031.
When new cameras are activated there will be a 30‑day warning period. During that time only warnings will be issued and signs will alert drivers to the upcoming enforcement. After the warning period, drivers caught speeding will start receiving tickets in the mail, usually within 14 days of the offense.
Each ticket includes photos of the speeding vehicle and its license plate. Motorists can contest a ticket if they believe it was issued in error. Fine amounts increase with repeat offenses: $50 for the first violation, $75 for a second violation within 18 months, and $100 for third and subsequent violations within 18 months.
