NJ Transit Schedule Changes Take Effect Across Multiple Rail Lines
NJ Transit’s new rail schedules took effect Sunday, bringing revised departure times, discontinued trains, added station stops and adjusted connections across several commuter rail lines in New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area.
The changes affect the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, Morris & Essex, Main-Bergen County, Montclair-Boonton and Raritan Valley lines.
On the Northeast Corridor Line, some early morning eastbound trains from Trenton and Jersey Avenue now depart earlier. Trains 3920 from Trenton and 3128 from New Brunswick were discontinued, while several evening westbound departures from New York Penn Station were retimed or eliminated.
On the North Jersey Coast Line, Train 3204 from Long Branch was discontinued. Train 3208 now departs earlier and no longer stops at Secaucus Junction. Several South Amboy departures were removed or adjusted, and some evening trains from New York Penn Station now leave earlier.
Morris & Essex and Gladstone Branch service changes include a new Secaucus Junction stop for Train 6612 from Dover, stop adjustments at Millburn and South Orange, the discontinuation of Train 609 from Hoboken, and revised westbound service between New York Penn Station and Dover.
On the Main-Bergen County and Port Jervis lines, Train 1158 now originates in Waldwick instead of Suffern and has been renumbered 1258. Train 1245 from Hoboken was replaced by the earlier Train 1243. Riders should review revised Secaucus Junction connections.
Raritan Valley Line changes include Train 2406 from Raritan now terminating at Newark Penn Station, Train 5420 originating at Plainfield under a new number, and multiple adjusted afternoon and evening departures.
Train 6270 on the Montclair-Boonton Line now leaves Montclair State University 13 minutes earlier and reaches New York Penn Station sooner. Some Newark Broad Street connections also changed.
The Princeton Dinky was adjusted to better align with Northeast Corridor service at Princeton Junction. No major changes were announced for the Atlantic City or Pascack Valley lines, though riders should review updated timetables.
Connection times at Secaucus Junction and Newark Broad Street Station have changed on several routes. NJ Transit will continue special getaway-day service ahead of Independence Day and Labor Day weekends on July 2 and Sept. 4. Officials also noted minor schedule changes across the system and urged customers to review updated schedules, use the trip planner and sign up for service alerts.
