Mamdani’s Bogus COGE: Socialist NYC Mayor Steals DOGE Slogan While Squandering Billions on Migrants, Unions & Cronies
New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani announced the creation of the Commission on Government Efficiency (COGE) on Thursday. The new 15-member commission aims to cut red tape, modernize operations, and deliver better value for working New Yorkers by treating taxpayer money with greater care.
“New Yorkers deserve a city government as careful with their money as they are,” Mamdani said.
COGE will review the city charter to speed up processes in housing, infrastructure, and public services. Mamdani has tapped longtime public servant Ann Cheng as executive director, with Patrick Gaspard as chair. It replaces a previous commission from the Adams era.
The move fits Mamdani’s agenda since taking office in January 2026. The democratic socialist mayor has already pushed agencies to find savings while expanding affordable housing and tenant protections.
The initiative has drawn comparisons to the federal DOGE effort. While some praise it as a step toward accountability, critics question whether it will tackle spending on migrant services or union contracts.
Mamdani claims COGE will help accelerate key priorities like building more affordable homes as the city manages its massive budget. The commission’s work begins in the coming months.
