Small-cap stocks decline over 10% from February peak, signaling potential economic concerns.
Just In – Russell 2000 Falls Into Correction
The Russell 2000 officially entered correction territory now hovering around 2,440, down more than 10% from its February peak near 2,721.
Small caps started the year strong, outpacing the S&P 500 on hopes for rate cuts and a shift away from Big Tech. That momentum has stalled fast.
Rising oil prices from Middle East tensions, the Fed’s reluctance to slash rates from the 3.50%-3.75% range, and softer data like falling industrial production are all weighing on smaller companies, which feel these pressures far more than their larger peers.
The Dow and Nasdaq haven’t confirmed corrections yet, but the Russell’s slide signals growing market jitters. It may prove to be a healthy pullback or the start of rougher times ahead.
