Russia Summons Israeli Ambassador After RT Crew Injured in Lebanon Airstrike
The Russian Foreign Ministry has officially summoned Israeli Ambassador Oded Joseph following an airstrike in southern Lebanon that wounded a film crew from the state-funded network Russia Today.
The incident occurred near the Al-Qasmiya Bridge—a strategic crossing over the Litani River—where correspondent Steve Sweeney and cameraman Ali Rida Sbeity were filming.
Moscow has condemned the strike as a “deliberate and targeted” attack on journalists, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova labeling it a “gross violation of international law.”
Russian officials pointed out that the crew was wearing clearly marked “PRESS” identification and was operating in an area they claimed was clear of military installations.
In response, the IDF stated that the bridge is a known Hezbollah transit point used for smuggling thousands of weapons and rockets.
The military emphasized that explicit warnings had been issued for civilians to evacuate the area and that the strike was carried out only after sufficient time had passed.
This diplomatic friction comes as Russia continues its own widely documented military campaign in Ukraine, which has seen extensive targeting of civilian infrastructure and the deaths of numerous media workers.
