Police clarify report of suicide vest was a misunderstanding involving exercise gear
UPDATE: Salford Incident Declared a False Alarm; One Arrest Made
The major security alert in the Manley Park and Leicester Road areas of Salford has been stood down after Greater Manchester Police determined the “suicide vest” report was a false alarm.
Authorities confirmed that the individual at the center of the call was wearing a weighted exercise vest while using the local exercise park.
Initial reports of armed suspects and a threat to Jewish-owned shops appear to have been triggered by public concern over the vest and the subsequent large-scale tactical response.
Despite the clarification, police have confirmed that the individual has been arrested for further investigation.
