Shooting Near White House Leaves One Bystander Wounded

Secret Service Director Sean Curran released a statement on yesterday’s shooting near the White House at the 17th Street & Pennsylvania Avenue checkpoint.

21-year-old Nasire Best, known to the Secret Service with prior incidents and mental health history, opened fire on officers.

He was shot and killed, and one bystander was wounded, condition serious but stable, with no Secret Service agents injured and Trump inside the White House and unharmed.

That corner sits right between the White House and the National Mall, and security around the perimeter has faced scrutiny for years.
