Smotrich flies to Washington to meet Latin American leaders, expand Isaac Accords
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich traveled to Washington on Saturday night to meet with Latin American leaders and expand the Isaac Accords, a new diplomatic and economic initiative with Latin American countries, Walla reported Sunday.
He is expected to return to Israel as early as Wednesday after an intensive series of meetings in the United States with key Latin American figures.
The accords, modeled on the Abraham Accords with Arab countries, currently include Argentina, Uruguay, Panama, and Costa Rica.
Under the initiative, cooperation will focus on the sale of Israeli defense systems and military technology, particularly for maritime security, police modernization, and combating organized crime and narco-terrorism.
The accords were launched in November 2025 following a meeting in Buenos Aires between Argentine President Javier Milei and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
Milei said Argentina would act as a “pioneer” alongside the United States in advancing the framework, describing it as a way to deepen ties with Israel across a range of strategic fields.
The initiative’s financial infrastructure is based on the $1 million Genesis Prize grant awarded to Milei in June last year.
A new body operating under the Genesis Prize Foundation will oversee budgets, investments, and business relations among the United States, Israel, and South American countries.
