Suspected Hamas Terrorist Arrested in Greece Over Plot to Bomb Israeli Cruise Ship
A 37-year-old Palestinian man suspected of being a Hamas operative has been arrested on the Greek island of Crete following a 15-day surveillance operation conducted by Greek intelligence services in cooperation with foreign agencies.
Authorities believe the suspect was planning a terrorist attack targeting an Israeli cruise liner—specifically identified by local media as the Israeli-owned Crown Iris—which was scheduled to dock in Crete.
According to police reports, the suspect arrived in Greece from Gaza a year ago and had been granted asylum before finding work at a local hotel.
Law enforcement officials stated that during interrogation, the man admitted to being a Hamas operative and confessed he was waiting for final instructions to carry out the attack.
Subsequent raids on residences in Crete and Athens uncovered an assortment of mobile phones, a laptop, external hard drives, bank cards, and laboratory equipment alongside chemicals capable of being utilized for bomb production.
The suspect is also being investigated for traveling abroad to undergo specialized training, while Greek authorities continue to examine whether he was targeting additional Israeli sites or interests across Europe.
