17‑Year‑Old passed away of Measles after Not Being Vaccinated

The Israeli Health Ministry has confirmed that a 17‑year‑old boy has passed away from measles after he was not vaccinated against the disease. The teenager was hospitalized about two and a half weeks ago with measles and, despite medical care, his condition deteriorated and he passed away.

Health officials also noted that among the 16 other recent measles deaths, most were infants and children who were unvaccinated and previously healthy.

The ministry reiterated that measles can be prevented with a safe and effective vaccine and urged families to seek medical care promptly if symptoms appear or infection is suspected, as early treatment can save lives.

Vaccination recommendations include routine doses at age 1 and age 6, with adjusted schedules in outbreak areas and for infants traveling to regions with measles spread.
