Trump Urges Senate Republicans to Eliminate Filibuster for SAVE America Act

President Donald J. Trump has increased pressure on Senate leadership to terminate the filibuster, a move intended to bypass opposition and secure the passage of the SAVE America Act.

In recent statements, the President described the 60-vote threshold as an obstacle to his agenda, urging Majority Leader John Thune to adopt a simple-majority rule to enact the administration’s top legislative priorities.

He warned that Republican senators who do not support this change risk losing their seats in future elections.

The push to change Senate rules centers on a version of the bill that includes five key pillars.

The legislation would require documentary evidence, such as a birth certificate or passport, for all federal voter registrations and establish a mandatory photo identification standard for federal elections.

It also proposes significant restrictions on mail-in voting, with specific exceptions for the military and those with documented medical conditions.
